Day 1

Thursday 14 November - The Herb Farm and Travelling to Taupo

With transfers arranged from Wellington, Kapiti, Palmerston North, Wairarapa and other surrounding areas, we meet for an early luncheon at the Herb Farm Café in Ashhurst.

Our menu is centred around local, free range and organic produce incorporating fresh herbs from their gardens. Following lunch there is time to wander the themed gardens set in rural tranquillity.
This afternoon we travel through the Desert Road and skirt the shores of Lake Taupo on our way to Wairakei Resort (home for the next 4 nights). There may be time after dinner tonight, or indeed any night, to visit the lovely hot thermal pools of Wairakei Terraces for a bit of pampering (own cost).

Day 2

Friday 15 November - Gardens in the Ngakuru–Waikite Valley Area

Our garden exploring begins.

With a picnic lunch packed we head out on State Highway 5 to explore four uniquely different properties in the rural Ngakuru–Waikite Valley countryside. Returning home after a full day of exploring we have time to relax at our hotel before enjoying dinner in-house.

Day 3

Saturday 16 November - Gardens in the Lake Okareka and Lynmore Area

Today’s travels take us to the scenic Rotorua Lakes area.

First, we enjoy the magnificent Redwood Forest before travelling out past Lake Rotokakahi (Green Lake), Lake Tikitapu (Blue Lake), and Lake Okareka to discover a unique garden taking advantage of its stunning lakeside location. We are spoilt for choice for beautiful lakes to picnic beside. This afternoon we have time to enjoy five other gorgeous private gardens in the Lynmore area. Following a full day of exploration, we return to our hotel for a well-earned rest and dinner.

Day 4

Sunday 17 November - Gardens in the Tikitere Area

Today we journey to the Tiketere Area on the road to Whakatane.

Our first stop is the beautiful Government Gardens before we begin the discovery of four larger rural gardens. We take a break during the day to picnic at the beautiful Okere Falls, and our last visit before leaving the shores of Lake Rotorua is Kuirau Park, beautifully landscaped to take full advantage of the thermal activity within the park. Tonight we enjoy our last dinner together to reminisce over the discoveries of the past few days.

Day 5

Monday 18 November - Cross Hills Garden and Travelling Home

We are homeward bound today, with our last garden lovers stop at the extensive and well-known gardens of Cross Hills.

We arrive back in Palmerston North in time to meet connecting services for those travellers continuing to Wellington, Hutt Valley, Kapiti Coast, Wairarapa and other surrounding areas.

The cost of the tour includes

  • 4 nights accommodation at the Wairakei Resort, Taupo
